  • Fluent in the English language (spoken & written)
  • Valid Criminal Record Check
  • Valid First Aid Certificate with CPR
  • Three References
  • Experience in creating learning through play environments with emergent curriculum
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Working knowledge of Provincial Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Bountiful energy, enthusiasm and leaderships skills

Key Responsibilities:

Responsibilities, as listed but not limited to:

 Program Planning

  • Using the British Columbia Early Learning Framework and Sheva- The Jewish Early Learning Framework for the JCCA of North America as guides, educators care and educate the children in their group.
  • Abide by the ECEBC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
  • Adhere to Provincial Child Care Licensing Regulations
  • Work as part of the team 
  • Provide for the safety and well-being of children
  • Co-construct responsive program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Develop professional relationships with parents 
  • Work with Program Supervisor to provide opportunities for parent engagement 
  • Maintains appropriate records and information on each child, particularly in regards to their health, safety or well-being, including attendance, absence and other parent messages
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioural challenges and document with support of program supervisor
  • Monthly fire drill execution, annual shake out execution, annual hold and secure drill
  • Check emails and respond in a timely manner
  • Attend and contribute to monthly staff meetings
  • Assist in the regular and on-going planning and implementation of appropriate programming 

With Children

  • Respond to children in positive, culturally-sensitive and respectful ways, always leaving their integrity intact
  • Take an active role in all areas of the program
  • Provide guidance which encourages learning and developing self-concepts
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Include children in problem solving with their peers
  • Model positive communication skills
  • Assist the children in expressing themselves by listening and responding with questions or comments that extend conversations
  • Respect and address children’s emotional and social needs

With Parents

  • Respect the individuality of all parents/families and be sensitive to the stresses they may experience
  • Take part in open, respectful and confidential daily communication with families
  • Accommodates the families’ instructions for a child’s daily routines within the group routines, whenever possible
  • Play an active role in keeping families updated regarding Centre information

With Staff

  • Support colleagues as part of a team effort in creating a positive and safe environment
  • Promote open communication by addressing imminent issues and being receptive to others
  • Maintain respectful relationships amongst staff at all times
  • Address questions, ideas or concerns with Program Supervisor; ECE Director in a timely fashion, whenever necessary

Health, Safety and Nutrition

  • Ensure, in cooperation with team members, that the environment is clean, healthy and safe for children at all times
  • Follow all current regulations, Program policies and procedures relating to health, safety and nutrition
  • Ensure the daily program promotes sound personal hygienic practices for staff and children and follows universal health care precautions and guidelines
  • Ensure children are dressed appropriately for all activities
  • Conduct head-counts at various points through-out the day
  • Ensure there is a staff person at the front and at the back of the group of children, when leaving the classroom and returning (to the gym, library etc.)
  • Understand and follows legal requirements for child abuse reporting

Centre Responsibilities

  • Assure that all activities within the program rooms and the JCC as a whole are always undertaken with consideration and respect for JCC property and member well-being 
  • Participate in Centre functions and activities including social, holiday and fundraising events which may or may not occur within their usual designated hours of work 
  • Inform the Centre of issues/concerns via the ECE Director

General Responsibilities

  • Promote the vision of inclusive, family-centred care which is respectful of diversity and culture
  • Promote and model a professional attitude in daily work by taking an active role in professional development offered by the JCC
  • Recognize and respect all confidential matters of the Centre and its affiliates

Salary & Benefits:

$20.02 To 26.34 Hourly plus Wage Enhancement for qualified ECE, ECEIT and ECESN

Vacation: You will earn three weeks vacation (6%) during the first completed year of employment; four weeks vacation (8%) after the third year of employment. You will not be expected to work when the centre is closed for Jewish Religious Holidays (you will still be paid for these days, if they are days you are scheduled to work).

Sick Days: Full Time employees are entitled to 18 days a year. 

Benefits: Employees and the JCCGV share the cost of premiums for health benefits 

    -You will get full membership to the JCCGV (pool, fitness etc.)

    -First Aid is requirement of employment any renewals will be paid for by the JCCGV

    -JCCGV will pay for any workshops you register in to a maximum of

    -Professional Days: with in house workshops or time for team building.

    -At least 4 staff events a year.

    -Employer pension plan benefit.
