ON-CALL Substitute Child Care Worker
We are located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh)
We are seeking flexible, fun, substitute preschool teachers and after school care leaders for casual positions with the Community Centre Associations, which oversee the child care programs in Community Centres across Vancouver.
Additional Qualifications:
- BC Early Childhood Education, BC Early Childhood Education Assistant, or BC Responsible Adult certification (a minimum of 20 hours of training in “Child Growth and Development”, “Health & Safety” and/or “Guiding and Caring”).
- Current First Aid Certificate
- A Criminal Record Check is a requirement of this position. A clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.

Required Experience:
- Previous experience in a Licensed child care program, or similar children’s recreation program.

Knowledge of early childhood education principles and practices

Ability to work with children of different ages and abilities

Proficiency in English, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff

Special education experience or training is a plus

Strong leadership and organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide quality care for children aged 3-12 yrs in licensed child care programs.

Ensure a healthy, safe and stimulating environment

Plan & implement age-appropriate programming under the direction of program staff

Provide guidance to children as a positive role model

Maintain a professional relationship with parents and families

Contribute to the overall operation of the program

Ensure the requirements and policies set out by licensing are met.
Salary & Benefits:
$18 - $21 per hour*
*Wages vary depending on the Centre. You will be required to sign a contract for each site.

This is the ideal position for students who are completing their education in a field related to children, candidates that enjoy the freedom of setting their own work schedule, and candidates looking to supplement their current employment.
This is a casual part time position. Shifts in the preschool programs generally fall between 9am-3pm. Shifts in out of school care programs generally fall between 7:30am-9am, and 2:00-6:00pm. On school holidays, non-instructional days and during the summer holidays, there may be opportunities for full day shifts.
Selected candidates will be added to a staff list shared between the centres. This position may lead to regular, permanent positions for interested candidates.
